‘Inventory and Revival of Springs in the Himalayas for Water Security’ report submittted by the expert group of NITI Ayog to save springs in Himalayas.
To save spring water systems in the Himalayan States mission is dedicated by an expert group of NITI AYOG.
i. The NITI Aayog expert group experts from the Department of Science and Technology. It submitted a report titled‘Inventory and Revival of Springs in the Himalayas for Water Security.’
ii. According to report that, nearly half of the perennial springs have dried up or have become seasonal. in the past 20 years Himalayan region have declined that Nearly 60% of low-discharge springs that supplied water to small habitations in the Himalayan region.
iii. In May 2018, several districts of Himachal Pradesh including Shimla faced severe drinking water crisis as major water sources dried out fully or partially.
iv. By natural springs 64% of the water is supplied to the cultivable area in the Himalayas.
