President Mukherjee embarks on two-nation tour to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand
President Pranab Mukherjee is embarking on a two-nation tour to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand on Wednesday.
A high-level delegation including Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan is accompanying the President on the five-day visit, which is aimed at energising and upgrading bilateral relations. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Joint Secretary, South, Jaideep Mazumdar informed that this is the first ever state visit of an Indian President to these two countries.
Kerala cartoonist V T Thomas passed away
Kerala cartoonist V T Thomas, popularly known as Toms, passed away on 27 April 2016 following a brief illness at in Kottayam, Kerela. He was 86. He is survived by his wife Thresyakutty and children Boban, Molly, Rani, Peter, Bose, Princy.
J&K Cabinet approved 5% interest subsidy for flood-hit traders
Jammu and Kashmir government on 27 April 2016 approved five percent interest subvention to flood-hit traders with effect from 1 April 2016. The decision will bring a major relief to September 2014 flood hit traders and business units.

The 2016 World Day for Safety and Health at Work was observed across the world on 28 April 2016 with the theme Workplace Stress: a collective challenge.
Fire destroyed Delhi’s National Museum of Natural History
A massive fire on 26 April 2016 destroyed the National Museum of Natural History located in New Delhi. The cause of fire is still unknown though the fire spread because of museum specimens and the wood work holding them.
A Naval Detachment (NAVDET) was on 26 April 2016 inaugurated at the Androth Island of Lakshadweep Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, AVSM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
Shyam Benegal panel submitted report on Censor Board functioning
The Shyam Benegal-headed committee constituted to revamp Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on 26 April 2016 submitted its report to Information & Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley.
The committee has recommended that CBFC should only be a film certification body whose scope should be restricted to categorizing the suitability of the film to audience groups on the basis of age and maturity.
