Vishal Sikka resigned as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Infosys with immediate effect.  Sikka has now been appointed as executive vice-chairman. The IT major named U B Pravin Rao as Interim Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Navika Sagar Parikrama, the first ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew, is scheduled to commence in early September 2017. They will begin their voyage from Goa on an Indian-built sail boat INSV Tarini and expect to return to Goa in March 2018, after completing the circumnavigation.

Corporate houses have donated a total of Rs 956.77 crore to national parties between 2012-13 and 2015-16. This constitutes 89 percent of the total contribution from known sources, according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Among the national parties, BJP received the maximum donations of Rs 705.81 crore from 2,987 corporate donors. It is followed by Indian National Congress (INC), which received Rs 198.16 crore from 167 corporate donors. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) received Rs 50.73 crore, Communist party of India (Marxist) Rs 1.89 crore and Communist Party of India (CPI) received Rs 0.18 crore.

The first shipment of American crude oil is expected to reach India in the last week of September 2017. The first tranche of oil to be exported from the shores of Texas will reach the Paradip Port in Odisha. With this India, the world’s third-largest oil importer joins Asian countries like South Korea, Japan and China to buy American crude oil.

The historical annual Manimahesh Yatra began in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. As part of the Yatra, pilgrims in large number from different parts of the country offer prayers to God Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Every year this yatra begins on Janamashtami and concludes after fifteen days on Radha Ashtami. Manimahesh Yatra is pilgrimage to Manimahesh Lake (4115m) situated at the base of Manimahesh Kailash Peak.

Lakshya Sen, the young Indian shuttler from Uttarakhand, on August 17, 2017 clinched the men’s singles title of Bulgaria Open International Series of badminton. He won the title after beating Zvonimir Durkinjak of Croatia in the summit clash in Sofia, Bulgaria. He is presently World Junior No 1.

The first regional centre of the BRICS-promoted New Development Bank (NDB) was officially opened in Johannesburg, South Africa on August 17, 2017. The idea for setting up NDB was proposed by India at the 4th BRICS summit in 2012 held in New Delhi and it started operation in July 2015. It is headquartered in Shanghai, China. It is headed by KV Kamath.
